Elementary and secondary school educators face many work stressors, which appear to be increasing due to economic, political, and social trends. Therefore, we analyzed data from a 2017 national American Federation of Teachers survey of U.S. education staff, including data from two New York School districts that have adopted collaborative labor-management practices. The national American Federation of Teachers sample of educators reported significantly higher prevalences of several work stressors and poorer physical and mental health compared to the U.S. workers overall, adjusted for age, gender, and race/ethnicity. Compared with educators nationally, educators in districts with collaborative labor-management practices did not have a consistently higher or lower prevalence of work stressors or poorer health. Findings suggest the importance of reducing work stressors among U.S. educators. Results should be interpreted with caution due to the low educator survey response rate.Despite guidelines, many individuals are not routinely tested for HIV within healthcare settings. Our objective was to quantify and characterize preceding clinical encounters by newly-diagnosed persons living with HIV in southern Alberta, Canada. We discuss the clinical impact of missed HIV testing, and options for remediation. Clinical encounters prior to HIV diagnosis including the discharge diagnosis were collected between 1 April 2011 and 1 April 2016. We followed the HIV Indicator Diseases across Europe Study criteria to identify HIV Clinical Indicator Conditions (HCICs) present at clinical encounters. Patients accessing prior care were compared to those who had not previously accessed care. Of 393 individuals, 231 (58.7%) had ?1 encounter prior to diagnosis; 224 (57%) of encounters occurred in outpatient clinics, 130 (33.1%) in emergency departments, and 39 (9.9%) in urgent care clinics. Approximately 25% (n?=?57) of patients who engaged healthcare had ? 1 recognized HCIC but did not receive HIV testing. The most frequent HCICs were infection (n?=?34; 60%) and hematological disorders (n?=?12; 21%). The median CD4 cell count at HIV diagnosis for patients with an HCIC was 127 cells/mm3. In this population, three of five patients had accessed healthcare prior to diagnosis with one of four presenting with HCICs but were not offered HIV testing. Protocols beyond the current recommendations are urgently required to address missed HIV diagnostic opportunities who engaged healthcare.Purpose From an anthropological perspective of hominin communication, the human auditory system likely evolved to enable special sensitivity to sounds produced by the vocal tracts of human conspecifics whether attended or passively heard. While numerous electrophysiological studies have used stereotypical human-produced verbal (speech voice and singing voice) and nonverbal vocalizations to identify human voice-sensitive responses, controversy remains as to when (and where) processing of acoustic signal attributes characteristic of "human voiceness" per se initiate in the brain. Method To explore this, we used animal vocalizations and human-mimicked versions of those calls ("mimic voice") to examine late auditory evoked potential responses in humans. Results Here, we revealed an N1b component (96-120 ms poststimulus) during a nonattending listening condition showing significantly greater magnitude in response to mimics, beginning as early as primary auditory cortices, preceding the time window reported in previous studies that revealed species-specific vocalization processing initiating in the range of 147-219 ms. During a sound discrimination task, a P600 (500-700 ms poststimulus) component showed specificity for accurate discrimination of human mimic voice. Distinct acoustic signal attributes and features of the stimuli were used in a classifier model, which could distinguish most human from animal voice comparably to behavioral data-though none of these single features could adequately distinguish human voiceness. Conclusions These results provide novel ideas for algorithms used in neuromimetic hearing aids, as well as direct electrophysiological support for a neurocognitive model of natural sound processing that informs both neurodevelopmental and anthropological models regarding the establishment of auditory communication systems in humans. This study aims to provide a deeper understanding of the lived experience of recovery of patients with bipolar disorder. A qualitative approach with 28 participants was performed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The experiences of the individuals regarding the recovery processes were themed with the journey metaphor the beginning of the journey, the route of the journey, a stop in the journey, the meaning of the journey. This study suggests ways clinicians must be aware of and adopted contemporary approach which recovery is defined as a process beyond treatment.
